Excursion to the jungle of Karlín offices

What effect do Houseplants have on the quality of work and performance of employees?

The office space of the online marketing agency eVisions stands out for its floor-to-ceiling windows, through which the sun flows into the rooms all day long. But what this modern space in the heart of Karlín lacked was greenery and indoor plants. So we put our hands to work and, following the example of the show How to Build a Dream, we breathed new life into the office.

Houseplants that will kick up your business

Plants have a huge influence on the human psyche and can influence a person's performance — always for the better. A 2014 study shows that in an environment with indoor plants occurs in comparison to offices without greenery to increase work efficiency by 15%. Furthermore, employees have been shown to feel more engaged and satisfied in the presence of flowers and plants. Flowers also have a positive impact on creativity, which is certainly a welcome aspect in a marketing agency.

According to Washington State University, flowers stimulate productivity, and even reduce stress and tension in the body. In measuring physiological responses, employees working in an office with plants were measured lower pressure and showed more completed work.

How is it in reality: Will the marketers from eVisions confirm the positive benefits of indoor plants?

The houseplants in our home in Karlín have already taken root successfully and have been actively cleaning the air in the offices for a few months. Altogether, these are more than 50 plants that gradually grow in pots and trays.

“The air quality in our rooms has improved, I think there is less humidity and overall it is better to breathe. In addition, the green gives a positive impression and completely recharges a person with energy. Sometimes I get up from work and go water the plants to clear my head and keep thinking creatively. Houseplants make it cozy and nicer for us here,” evaluates the presence of plants social media specialist Elizabeth.

No wonder. Plants naturally filter the air and improve its quality by absorbing harmful substances and releasing oxygen.

Monstera & Co.: Which Houseplants Loves the Office?

In order for plants to thrive and employees to benefit from their benefits, it is necessary to select types of indoor flowers that will flourish in the given environment. Offices have some common features: air conditioning in them runs 24/7, in large rooms it gets dusty and the light is muffled by blinds. Which plants can withstand such conditions?

For example, we have equipped eVisions with the following types of indoor flowers:

  • Monstera deliciosa
  • Dracaena marginata
  • Calathea gemengd
  • Dypsis lutescens
  • Yucca elephantipes
  • Phlebodium aureum
  • Ficus lyrata
  • Kumquat
Better one Houseplant than ten doctors

The positive benefits of plants are many, and not only in offices. One of the most important factors is their positive impact on health. Although they are not a cure (at least not the ones mentioned above), their effect is even more beneficial - to a certain extent prevent the spread of bacilli, prevent headaches and fatigue. Due to constant oxygenation, it regularly changes the air in the room, and it remains clean, free of harmful substances. And even in a full meeting room at a company-wide meetings. This claim again follows from a study, this time from 2010 from the Technical University of Sydney.
